18 Things I’ve Learned In 18 Years

Happy Easter everyone and Happy Birthday to me! I am finally 18 and I thought I would share with you everything I have learned about life so far.

1 – A small amount of close friends is much better than a ton of “friends.”

I would rather have a small number of people in my life who always have my back than have so many friends who are only friends with you because they see you on a regular basis or who don’t really care about your well-being at all.

2 – Patience is hard and patience is necessary.

Patience can be so hard to practice but, trust me being patient is always worth it.

3 – As soon as you think you have everything figured out, something is bound to go wrong and just go with it.

No matter how much planning you put into something, it will probably not go the way you planned. Just go with it. Laugh, smile and realize that this is all part of life.

4 – There is always enough time.

Make time for the stuff you want to do. We all have 24 hours in our days.

5 – Don’t miss out on an opportunity because you are afraid. Seek all opportunities to try new things.

A lot of good things can happen when you just say yes. If you really want to do something and you say no out of fear, you will probably regret it later on.

6 – Kindness, politeness and admitting you make mistakes will take you far in life.

It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, if you are kind people will remember you and they will be kind to you.

7 – Learn to be honest about everything.

Honesty will save you from so many sticky situations.

8 – Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

When you learn to ask for help, you can learn so much.

9 – If you need a break, take one.

Slow down before you sprint and you’ll go further than a consistent jog.

10 – Don’t care what anyone thinks of you.

You have to live with yourself, and they have to live with themselves. Be somebody you want to spend the rest of your life with.

11 – If you have a dream, go after it, even if people don’t understand it.

Leave behind all the ones who called you crazy and all the ones who said you couldn’t do it and prove them wrong.

12 – Take photographs of everything.

Looking back on good times is wonderful.

13 – Meditate.

Meditation helps clear the mind from distractions, helps you focus and it brightens your mood.

14 – Laugh it off.

Sometimes you need to just let it go and not take everything seriously.

15 – Read often.

Scraps of paper, old journals, books, magazine scraps. Read anything and everything.

16 – Change is inevitable.

Things are not going to stay the same and you have to learn to accept it and adapt to the new changes and move on.

17 – It’s okay to close the door on things.

Some things become toxic for you. Get rid of those things you don’t need that negativity in your life.

18 – Never stop trying to improve yourself.

Don’t ever think that you suddenly know it all. You can always better yourself.
